Debra Killeen graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1985 and spent 15 years working as a pharmacist in numerous settings – hospital, retail, and home infusion. She never found the right fit. Then, having reached her limit with managed “care,” she transitioned careers into clinical research and writing novels.
After receiving the requisite rejections from a number of agents and publishers, Debra opted to self-publish her first two young adult fantasy novels, An Unlikely Duke in 2005, and its immediate sequel, A Prince In Need, in 2006. Both novels have been placed on the Recommended Reading list for the Indian River County, FL school system, grades 8 through 12, thanks in great part to the marketing efforts of Debra’s aunt.
In 2006, Duke was picked up by Helm Publishing and was released the end of April 2007. Prince is under consideration by Helm at this time. The series will run for a total of five novels.
Debra attends a number of science fiction/fantasy conventions, including ConCarolinas in Charlotte, NC, and DragonCon in Atlanta annually. Debra will also be at the Vero Beach Book Festival in November 2007.
Debra resides in Chapel Hill, NC, the home of her alma mater and the ACC/NCAA basketball champion UNC Tar Heels. She shares a home with her sister Diane and five exceptional cats – Mandy, Scott, Finn, Isis and Osiris.
Debra is currently working on the final volume of this series and has plans for a crusade trilogy set in the same universe and an occult mystery series, both also for young adults. Her psychic tells her she will write at least 25 books.
